What is PLA?
Portuguese Lingua de Acolhimento or named Portuguese language course "A welcoming Language" is a certify levels A1 + A2 (Elementary User) and B1 + B2 (Independent User), according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
This course is aimed to young people and adults which Portuguese in not their mother tongue as an effective learning not only about the language but also Portuguese culture & custom as effective and transformative and constituting a decisive instrument for social integration, civic and labor market.
It is also indispensable for submitting applications for Portuguese nationality, permanent residence permits and long-term resident status.
Course Curriculum
PLA courses are organized according to the competency and training frameworks included in the National Qualifications Catalogue (CNQ).

UFCD 6452 – Eu e meu dia a dia (Me and my daily routine) (25h)
UFCD 6453 – Hábitos alimentares, cultura e lazer (Eating habits, culture and leisure) (25h)
UFCD 6454 – O corpo humano, saúde e serviços (The human body, health and services) (25h)
UFCD 6455 – Eu e o mercado de trabalho (Me and the labour market) (25h)
UFCD 6456 – Meu passado e meu presente (My past and my present) (25h)
UFCD 6457 – Comunicação e vida em sociedade (Communication and life in society) (25h)
LEVEL B1+ B2:
UFCD 6397UI - Me, society and culture / Eu, a sociedade e a cultura (50 hours)
UFCD 6399UI - Cultural current affairs / Atualidade cultural (Workload 25 hours)
UFCD 6400UI - Society and life projects / Sociedade e projetos de vida (50 hours)
UFCD 6401UI - Current affairs / Atualidades (Workload 25 hours)

Course Requirements
The PLA course is regulated by the relevant authority in Portugal and offered to those who comply with the following requirements:
Citizens aged 16 or over whose mother tongue is not Portuguese regardless of their regular situation in the country. Also aimed at citizens who hold short-term visas for seasonal work, temporary stay or residence.
Recipients must be in possession of the following documents:
Residence permit, in accordance with the national legislation applicable to foreign nationals.
NIF Número de Identificação Fiscal.
If the person does not have residence permit, they must present the following documents:
Proof that the procedure for extending the stay in national territory or for granting or renewing a residence permit has been initiated. (comprovativo from SEF/ AIMA) or Proof of submission of an application for international protection or temporary protection.
NIF Número de Identificação Fiscal or Proof of the Social Security Identification Number (NISS).

Certification for PLA Portuguese Lingua de Alcohimento Course
Upon completing the course sucessfully, the student will receive your Portuguese Language Proficiency certification from the awarding body within 3-4 weeks. Please note that this timeframe may vary slightly due to national holidays and potential closures of the certifying entities.
